Turf Care

Mowing/Edging/Permanent and Rye

One of the most important cultural practices is proper turfgrass maintenance. In order to maintain lawn health, appropriate cutting height and mowing frequency is essential. Mowing can stress your lawn, however, good mowing practices can minimize stress and maximize root and leaf growth, as well as keep pests and diseases at bay.

The Landpatterns team understands and utilizes the proper mowing practices to keep our clients’ lawns healthy and beautiful. We adjust our meticulously maintained equipment according to each individual grass type to ensure proper cutting height and develop a tailored plan to maintain proper mowing frequency.

We offer mowing and edging services for both permanent and over-seeded winter turfgrass.

Scalp/De-thatch

Improper lawn maintenance often leads to a spongy buildup between the soil and grass leaves called thatch.  A small amount is desirable, however an excessive amount reduces water infiltration and creates root, pest and disease danger.

If thatch becomes a problem in your lawn, Landpatterns can help provide the solution.  Out three-step solution will eliminate the thatch and help restore the soil and turf to optimum health.  Our 3-step plan begins in the spring with de-thatching.  We will use a specialized tool called a vertical mower to remove the excess thatch.  Next we will aerate the soil to allow for oxygen and water to penetrate the soil.  Finally, we will fertilize the lawn to help the soil and turf recover and become vigorous once again.

Overseeding/Winter Rye

Many of our clients enjoy a beautiful green lawn throughout the winter months.  We achieve this look by overseeding bermudagrass lawns with winter ryegrass for year-round color.

Clean-up/Litter Removal/Site Inspection

Garden maintenance begins with a clean slate.  Trust our professionals to conduct a thorough site inspection and clean-up.

Fertilization

A good fertility program is key to a healthy, vigorous lawn.  At Landpatterns, our main goal is to provide the right nutrients at the proper rate and frequency so your lawn’s health is preserved and any potential risk for runoff or leaching is kept at a bare minimum.

Landpatterns provides fertilization programs for both permanent and overseeded turf.

Pre-Emergent Application

The best way to control unsightly weeds is by proper turf management.  Included in a carefully constructed management program is a pre-emergent herbicide application.  Just as the name indicates, the pre-emergent herbicide is applied in early spring for warm-season weeds such as crabgrass, goosegrass and sandbur, and in early fall for cool-season weeds such as annual ryegrass and bluegrass to prevent the weeds from emerging from the ground.

Post-Emergent Application

Broadleaved weeds such as clover, dandelion and henbit can be best controlled by using a selective post-emergent herbicide once the weeds have sprung up in your lawn.  The Landpatterns team will carefully apply the herbicide to these particular weeds, paying close attention to surrounding turf and beds.

Leaf Control

As lovely as fall leaves in North Texas can be, they can also be an overwhelming amount of work to keep under control.  An excessive leaf cover can also be detrimental to the health of your lawn by impeding light and water infiltration.  Our team can mulch leaves into the turf itself, providing a nutrient-rich mulch, or we can bag your leaves and leave them for use in your compost pile or take them with us for use in ours!  Disposal is entirely up to you.

Insect Control

North Texas has several common groups of insects that can inflict turf damage if not carefully controlled.  Our trained garden managers will conduct a site inspection to identify the cause and culprit of turf damage, and recommend and conduct the proper method of control.

Shrubs/Ground Cover Care

Trim Shrubs

One of the major components to keeping landscape plans healthy and vigorous is trimming and pruning.  There are several reasons to prune your landscape plants: to train a plant, to control shape, and to increase flower and fruit quality and quantity.  However, if trimming is not done using the correct techniques at the right times, you can severely damage your valuable plants.  The Landpatterns team is well versed in the best practices or trimming and pruning all types of plants for the utmost health of your landscape.

Trim Azaleas/Camellias/Japanese Maples

Plants in this category have specialized pruning requirements beyond those of regular landscape plants.  Our professionals take the guesswork out of trimming these sensitive species to keep them looking their eye-catching best.

Trim Roses

All roses need to be pruned to maintain their shape, to help prevent pest and disease problems, and to encourage large and abundant blooms.  Roses require a special touch at specific times of the year, techniques that the Landpatterns team utilize to keep our clients’ rose gardens spectacular.

Bed Maintenance

The health and beauty of your garden starts with a strong, well-maintained foundation.  Our team will keep your beds trimmed, mulched, weeded and under control.

Fertilize Shrubs/Ground Covers

Landpatterns provides fertilization programs to improve and maintain the health and vitality of your shrubs and ground covers.

Fertilize Azaleas/Camellias/Japanese Maples

Finicky plants such as Azaleas, Camellias and Japanese Maples have special requirements in the North Texas area, where the soils are slightly more alkaline than they would prefer.  We have tailored fertility programs for this group of acid-loving plants that focus on adding the nutrients these plants need to produce the blooms and foliage you come to expect from them.

Trim Liriope/Ornamental Grasses

Occasionally even the most self-sufficient plants in the landscape need a trim to preserve the integrity of the look intended for them.  Landpatterns offers trimming services for all types of ground cover, including but not limited to Liriope,  ornamental grasses, Asian Jasmine, Ivy and Honeysuckle.

Pre-Emergent Weed Control

Weeds in a flower or landscape bed can do more than just serve as an unsightly intruder; they can crowd your plants and even compete with them for nutrients in the soil and water.  One of the best ways to control weeks is to head them off before they emerge and become a problem.  Landpatterns can help prevent weeds before they become a problem by applying pre-emergent herbicide in early spring for warm-season weeds and early fall for cool-season weeds.

Azalea Insect/Disease Control

Though not native to the area, Azaleas are a favorite in North Texas landscapes.  From time to time, they can become vulnerable to insects and disease.  Our team can assess the problem with your Azaleas and can offer a solution to keep them looking their healthiest.

Insect Control

North Texas has several common groups of insects that can inflict bed damage if not carefully controlled.  Our trained garden managers will conduct a site inspection to identify the cause and culprit of damage, and recommend and conduct the proper method of control.

Tree Care

Prune Crape Myrtle

There are many misconceptions surrounding proper pruning techniques for Crape Myrtles.  Though the trend is waning in recent years, all too often incorrect methods are still used, altering the lovely natural shape of the Crape Myrtle and causing a decrease in quality and quantity of blooms.  Severely topping a Crape Myrtle is sometimes jokingly referred to as “Crape Murder.”

We at Landpatterns strive to maintain the graceful natural shape of the Crape Myrtle by removing any dead, weak or stray limbs.  Properly pruned, the Crape Myrtle will remain a favorite and vigorous summertime bloomer.

Prune Small Ornamental Trees

Proper pruning techniques promote healthy and plentiful growth, foliage, flowers and fruit.  Our professionals take the time and care to make proper cuts at the most advantageous times of year to promote plant health and mitigate plant injury.

Fertilize Trees

Just as all other landscape plants, trees greatly benefit from a proper fertility plan.  Landpatterns will assess your trees’ needs and develop the right plan for optimum health of your most important landscape plant.

Irrigation Care

Inspections/Adjustments

One of the most important elements in a healthy landscape is a properly working irrigation system.  The Landpatterns team can inspect and adjust your existing irrigation system to ensure proper timing and amount of water for your landscape.

In addition to traditional sprinkling systems, our team can advise you on alternative watering systems such as drip irrigation and rainwater catchment systems.

Perennial/Seasonal Color Care

Landpatterns will design a tailored and unique seasonal color landscape with your personal color and texture preferences and the style and color palette of your home in mind.  Additionally, we will install and care for your seasonal color, so all you have to do is enjoy it!

Periodically, your healthy perennials will need to be trimmed and split in order to maintain maximum growth and vigor.  Our team will schedule two trim/splits per year—once for spring and summer perennials and once for fall perennials.
